Toyota Carina problem..?
Answers:
Toyota Carina normally an ultra-reliable car. This new exhaust may be banging on the floor or touching the bodywork somewhere. If you have had an after-market exhaust fitted by someone like Kwik-Fit or similar, they never seem to fit as nicely as the genuine article. I had similar problems with my Mondeo. The genuine Ford exhaust fitted much better than a crappo after-market thing.
Other things to check will be all of your rear suspension bushes and mountings, and your rear dampers/shock absorbers., and the rear-springs which can break when they get a few years old.
May sound obvious, but check your wheel-nuts are tight too.
Get a friendly mechanic to get the thing up on a ramp, and go through it. It needs checking to make sure something isn't compromising your safety.
sounds like your wheel bearings have gone, that is most likley the knocking noise you can hear
Could be shock absorbers gone, halfords sell and fit..they will check free of charge
kip
i had a toyota carina before and i had that knocking sound as well and when i took it to the mechanic it was the track rod or something, definitely has to do with the wheel, so checking the suspension, dampers would help
