I wonder can any body help me ?

I Have got a peugeot 406 HDI the problem I have is that the engine cooling fans stay on the temperature gage does what it wants to. And on the display it comes up engine temperature too hot .
This happens all the time even when you first start the car from cold. And has been put on a diagnostic machine and comes up with engine coolant sensor but is not and the year of the car year 2000 w reg thanks very much ..

I had this problem a few years ago. it took the garage weeks to find out what was wrong. It turned out to be a faulty battery. Ok normal. But breaking down under load.
Sounds to me like the radiator temperature switch has been bypassed to hide the fact that the thermostat is stuck in the closed position, its an old car dealer trick, that way the engine does'nt overheat cos the fan is on and cooling the coolant quickly as it passes through the radiator. change the thermostat then check the wiring on the switch.
I,ve always worked on the principle that if it is not broken, don't fix it.

Your car works, right?

So whats the problem?

Simply check oil & water regulary, service as oftern as the book says, and bingo, no worries.

You dont even need a full service when it says in the book.

Easy rule is, 6 months after mot, get a basic service, at time of mot get a full service.

My Rover 400 does 30,000 pa, now has 110,000 on the clock.

No probs.

Stop worring, and join the AA..
I definitely agree with John B..robbing bastards!!
make sure the coolant level is correct.
If the diagnostic is saying the temp switch is faulty but u have changed it then i would guess one of the wires to this switch has rubbed through and is touching metal. When the engine gets hot the resistance in the switch decreases, so if one of the wires is earthed the ecu will think the car is really hot and run the fans and the temp gauge will go up. Basically check the wiring to the switch.
i think you should change the radiator and find the new one.
