Im looking to buy an old 1977 ford capri?
Answers:
Where are these scrapyards with Capris in them? Many Ford parts are interchangeable, and that helps, but Rot will the problem. Fords of that era rotted like crazy, and Capris worst than most owing to that great long nose on them. Sills, doors, chassis rails, spring hangers, inner and outer wings, even the d-pillars rotted away under the very common vinyl-roofs which popular at the time .. a nightmare. If this Capri was any good it would be in the hands of a classic enthusiast. As for the driving experience, rear-wheel drive. and being a Capri. you are gonna be spending a lot of time spinning the bloody thing and facing the way you came!!
Yeah, that car is 30 years old! And it's a Ford.. Sounds like a problem to me.
RUST !
Back then all makes, not just the Fords, got holes along the sills and doors. Look out for large areas of filler.
Check out the owners club, the engine, a pinto was used in most of fords cars and they are VERY simple to work on.
A Carpi was my first car, I only had it a few months and the engine died on me. I got one from a scrap yard, totally stripped and rebuit it. All with no knowledge and a little help from a friend to do the tappits and timing.
Get one totally classic car!!
Here s link to one club but there are many.

WHY!!!!!!!
dont bother about insuring thru your mum, the car has classic status and is cheap to insure.
Parts are not expensive becaus you can buy from scrapyards. Rust with cars of this age will be a problem.
Driving older rear wheel drive cars needs car on wet roadabouts especially if this is the 2.0 or 3.0 capril
