Answers:
This hate-filled government assumes that if you forget or are abroad or otherwise unable to tax your car then you MUST be a criminal or a tax dodger and so be suitably fined. Though for some reason they get upset if we question their actions and motives.
You can walk!!
its a log book/registration book with all your car details on it.
You need to take your log book and proof of insurance to the post office and get it taxed ASAP. If you dont, you will get an even bigger fine.
or declare it S.O.R.N. if you can't find them until you do. That way you don't get the instant fine.
Put your car off the road and declare it as off road or you may have a crushed car.
Ring up the DVLA and tell them that it is off the road. (And you must make sure that it is!). You can then make a declaration to that fact.

Beware that there are penalties for making a false delcaration, but essentially, you do not need to pay tax for the period that your car is off the road (and you swear that it is!!)
Did you get a reminder letter through the post? Take that? Or do they mean your log book. You can still get tax if it ran out yesterday! Ring the DVLA if your unsure.
If you take your registrations papers, and your insurance certificate then they will issue your tax disc. I have been late collecting my tax and they didnt fine me. I think as long as you do it now it will be fine. Normally the DVLA will issue you with a letter first so post office will not fine you.
Run like hell boy !!

Or perhaps just go into the post office with your log book, certificate of insurance and MOT. Then pay for the tax. It will probably be back dated a month, so you'll have paid for the month you missed !
do you have the log book for the car?
have declared the car of road to the dvla,if your driving without tax you can get a huge fine, you need to speak to them,a friend of mine was without tax for 2months he was fined £80,another friend had her car taken away, but she didn't have tax on for 10months,its not worth the hassle, sort it out,a.s.a.p
most large city's have a motor taxation office, firstly get the car insured and mot'ed , once you have all the documents take to the office nearest to you you,ll need to fill in the forms of ownership and the right amount of monies the people there will help you
You need the Reg certificate and certificate of insurance and an MOT document (if car is older than 3 years) if you can't find either SORN it and get it off the road til you do ASAP.
