the fto is the same thing as the 3000 gt for the U.S. and if it is the vr4 it is all wheel drive all base models are front wheel drive

No mate. They are front wheel drive. Doesnt matter which model u av..1.8GS.2.0Gr. or the top model 2.0 GPX MIVEC, they are all front wheel drive. I've just brought my 2nd FTO actually last week! But i would always recommend the raire manual versions over the Tiptronic auto models..
E.G- The 2.0GR model which has 180BHP with a manual gearbox, will out run the 2.0 GPX mivec which has 200BHP if its a Tiptronic!

They are front wheel drive, Which is silly for a sports car, and I used to have a VR4 Galant (Big brother to the Evo) and I think Mitsubishi`s are great.
Try a MR2 or a Honda prelude as an alternative, or even a BMW 3 series such as a nice 3 door 325i.
drive them all before making your mind up, I have.
