Does my 1991 Toyota Celica ST182 have a load sensing valve on the rear brake system?

In what way do you mean that the brakes are less efficient? I cant say for sure but yes, i think that you are looking at the load sensing valve but i am pretty sure that this is not your problem. If the car has drum brakes,I think that the brakes probably need adjusting properly. Firstly, let the handbrake adjustment off so that the lever inside the brake drum goes fully back against the metal part of the shoe. Then adjust the brake adjuster(cogged wheel) a little at a time and each time put the drum back on to check if it binds. Do this as many times as necessary until the drum sticks slightly. Repeat on the other side, refit the drums, wheels and then adjust the handbrake at the adjuster beside the handbrake lever inside the car, check that the wheels still turn ok so that you havent over adjusted the handbrake. If the car has rear disc brakes, its quite possible that the calipers are seized and this is a problem that is best left to a mechanic.Hope this cures your prob.
