Renault Megane.can a mechanic no-hoper like me change a coil without causing major problems?

Hi there, if I am not mistaken, the megane was fitted with four coils, 1 coil per spark plug. They are covered with a plastic engine cover which can be removed very easily. There is 1 electrical connection per cyclinder and is easy removed also. The coils are secured by means of either a 10mm headed bolt or a bolt which can only be removed using a special tool/driver called a torx bit size 30, I think. Next question is do you know which coil needs replacing as you will have a misfire and there are 4 coils. Its very difficult ot disconnect the coil and diagnose the misfire because the cyclinder is compressing fuel aswell and to make sure you diagnose the correct cylinder, you can disconnect each injector connector(4 of them) just beneath the inlet manifold and the faulty coil will show up much easier and quicker as the fuel is being cut too, be sure to replace the injector connector and keep your mits clear of the coolant fan, as the fan could start at any time.

It should be just a case of two bolts and three wires but I'm not familiar with this particular vehicle and my father (who loved the old 2CV - 4CV models and whose only brand new car was a Dauphin is chasing Crosleys in Kentucky right now). My advice if original equipment was Lucas on anything, go Bosch. I won't tell.
yes, pull off the fuel injector wires one at a time to find out which coil is faulty (when u pull off an injector wire and the engine runs the same uve found the dodgy coil), then undo the torx bolt holding it in, un-clip the wire, and replace.
Are you talking Diesel or Petrol?
If its a heater coil, they are just like spark plugs to remove and replace. (but don't need setting.) You just need to identify the faulty one.
If you are talking about a Petrol, then that's the ignition coil. These days its a small boxlike thing attached to the side of the engine. Anyone can replace it in about 10 Min's with only simple tools. (Just remember not to touch the high tension side!)
Either way its just cost parts and saved you at least £35 labour.
Yes, just make sure you have the correct sized Torx socket. If you round that bolt your buggered.
