What are those 'yellow mushroom' stickers on road signs all over the place?

Nobody has ever given me a satisfactory answer..any clues?

These started in my squadron in the army. We made them ourselves and stuck them on our vehicles, and there's a bit of a cult thing going on with them.
What started it? Well, we called ourselves the "Mushroom Squadron" - kept in the dark and fed on s**t.
