Thinking of flying on the Airbus A380 inaugural passenger flight.?
2) Advisable on its first passenger flight? Could be technical problems? terroist target?
Answers:
Singapore Airlines are running something like a lottery to anyone for the first flight.
To be honest once you're inside - so what - it will feel the same as any other large jet. They are promising all these extra things like gyms and bars etc but they wont be in the regular passenger jets - it will just be a load of seats.
No terrorist threat - it will be more heavily guarded than the pentagon.
These things are foolproof. Chances of it going down on its first flight are less than a boeing going down. Airbus have a much better safety record.
Singapore airlines are running a competition. Other than that I think there are no advance bookings. Security should be very tight on first flight so I wouldn't worry about terrorism etc..
Unless you are some VIP, your chanes are very low of flying on the new bird.
The first flight is mostly aimed towards media, executives, etc. unless you win that competition, you may have to wait a while to get on board.
1) no. even the schedule loaded to reservation system isn't showing 380 till 2007 Spring. But the first route is likely to be Singapore-Sydney. Would be a nice surprise for those who booked already and found out they're the 1st to fly the A380.
2) when a brand new aircraft, regardless the first of the type for the airline or 2nd or 3rd.etc, they always do the maintainance and preparation (could be 1-3 days or so) to make sure 0-problem on its first revenue flight.
But if a technical problem does occur in this case, it could be a big embarassment especially to Airbus after these recent turmoils.
Terrorist target? they could've targetted the QE II on its first voyage.
