MInis of this age have a rubber cone suspension one the top suspension arm there is a ball joint that snaps is your suspension very hard? This is a symptom of the above fault any more help i can be don't hesitate to contact .You need a special tool to compress the rubber suspension unit .Regards Mick worked on them since they came out.
Have you checked the alignments of the wheels? Please check the alignment and do wheel balancing. It will solve this problem.
It sounds as though your suspension ride height is too low. You need to take it to a specialist to have the hydro-pneumatic suspension pumped up. This is a quick simple job & should not be expensive.

Wheel alignment & balancing will not cause this.

If your wheel alignment is incorrect this will cause uneven tyre wear & possibly a steering pull to 1 side.

Front wheels out of balance will cause a vibration through the steering wheel between 40 to 55mph.
The MOT test is only a basic check of your car and can often miss problems ( trust me on this :¬/ ) book it in to your garage and ask them to check over your suspension thoroughly - springs, rods, linkages, oleo-pnuematics, bushes, the lot !!

We have a Fiesta and the MOT found that the near-side suspension spring had broken ( no doubt due to those damned speed bumps everywhere ) so we had that and the off-side anti-roll bar replaced.

Thinking that was the end of the infernal clunk-knock sounds we'd suffered for an eternity, imagine my annoyance (and the mechanics suprise) that when he pushed the front end down to show me the noise had gone, the car clunked louder than before !

Although the new parts were OK, because we'd been running on what was effectively half a spring on the near side, the suspension arm had slowly worked its way halfway through the rubber mounting bush so there was half an inch of slack that couldn't be taken up by the main nut. The new knocking was the main nut hitting the frame !!

The car is now fixed ( after two new anti-roll bars, one main spring and mounting bush ) and quiet again but had better start repaying our ( £300 worth of ) kindness or else !
