Why is my gearlever stiff?

The gearlever on my 1999 LWB 3000cc V6 Pajero has become very stiff. I think the problem is with the selector/lever rather than the gearbox. The dealer reckons its the syncromesh but I don't think it is as the gears never crash or grate.

Any ideas?

Answers:
Try oiling the mechanism/connections/ujs between the lever and the gearbox and checking there is no damage to to it.
Ignore suggestions about grease in the gearbox it must be oil!

i would say something rude but im not allowed to on here so the clean and honest answer is i dont know
I would suggest you start with checking the gear box fluid first. If all is well there, then check the selector before bothering with the gear box.
Is it because you keep gripping it and waggling it around?
Call the AA or RAC!!!
I would bet that no one has ever changed the grease in the gear box. This is something very few ever think about. The gear grease should be changed every five years or sooner if in very dusty places. The same goes for the differential.

I hope this helps.
Gear oil could be the problem, also check the gear linkage as if its loose it can cause simliar problems, try the owners clubs, they are always good for information.
