What is the spigot ring on a alloy Wheel used for?

Answers:
It centres the wheel on the hub making sure that it runs true.
I'm pretty sure its used as an ornamental feature or if I have my wires crossed it the offset spacer not to sure from memory now.
A spigot ring sits inside the alloy wheel in the bore in the middle (Otherwise known as the central bore) - Manufacturers of Alloy wheels make the central bore a certain size, some cars need a spigot ring to reduce the bore to fit that car, others the wheel will fit on with no spigot ring.

If the alloy needs a spigot ring and doesn't have one then this can cause problems as you've be able to mount the wheel off centre, which would be dangerous whilst driving as there would be additional strain on the wheel nuts/studs which could eventually lead to them sheering off and the wheel following suit. Other things such as driveshafts and suspension components can also damaged as a result.
