Have you tried checking the battery in the key? They go flat after about 2 or 3 years. Once they have gone flat, the keys need to be re-programmed to your car - the handbook should have details.
Also try cleaning the key (it makes a contact).

The batery in the key to open the car would probally be dead.Mercedes Benz keys do the same thing and most of the time all it is is that the batery in the key need to be replaced.
Ya change the battery first and lock and unlock the car 3 times
