Looking for a a page that will help me fix the metro?

car is over heating and would like a page that will help me to find out the problem and fix it

You have a metro that runs! Wow.any fix over $10 is more then the car is worth!
Check the water pump,the fan and the fuses.
Check water AND oil levels. If both OK, is it loosing water? If so may have leak, or is boiling over. Since Metro is front wheel drive, fan must come on when hot. Is it? How many miles on car. If around 100,000 radiator may be plugged and need replacement. Send email with more details. When overheating. How severe. etc.
get a Haynes manual (about 15 pounds) or borrow from library

1. is there an air filter in the plastic box? If not, or it has holes in it, the car is running on a weak mixture and will run hot. Oh, and there is a thin rubber tube which runs from the air intake to the carburettor, it sometimes cracks at the end. This needs to be airtight.

2. check the timing if you can

3. flush the cooling system, radiator etc. If there is muck in there the cooling fluid won't be going around properly. Does the fan come one when it should?

4. a workaround, if the car overheats is to turn the heater on full, this effectively increases the size of the radiator and will cool the engine.

5. You might get Halfords or Quickfit to do a tune-up quite cheaply
Well if it is the rover engine in it then we all know the problem my man, the head gasket is goosed and more than likely the head is aswell especially if you have driven it a lot while overheating. The best thing is to get a quote from your mechanic, they are well used to doing these Rovers problems. Most mechanics could probably do them blindfolded, with their hands tied behind their backs and one leg in a cast
Start at the begining..when the engine is overheating is the radiator hot as well? if not then the thermostat is not opening at the temperature.If the radiator gets hot does the cooling fan switch on? if not then either the cooling fan switch has had it or the fan itself has a problem.could even be just a fuse..If all this checks out ok then does the radiator look like its had its day? is it shabby with bits haning loose from it or leaking anywhere..Usually if the head gasket goes there is either oil in the water or water in the oil causing the oil in the top to look emulsified.
Flush out the radiator.it may be blocked.
