Volvo v 40 Hydraulic valve lifters?

The hydraulic valve lifters on my Volvo v40 are maing a hell of a diesel like noise when the engine is idling.

Is there an easy cure or do I need a knew engine, is it just a noise but no damage will come of it?

Ive tried oil additives which worked for a day then the noise came back. Someone told me the oils too thing thus not building up enough pressure to lift he lifters in idle.

Any ideas??

Diesel Engine,s Are Made To Rattle It,s The Nature Of A Diesel Engin But If It Shakes & Rattels Then You Need A New Set Of Lifters
If you have enough oil in it I would check the oil pressure. to do that there is a oil pressure sending unit on the front of the block below the intake. don't lose the copper gasket. screw in the pressure gauge start it up and check for pressure. i'm not sure of the spec i can look it up at work tomorrow. if you have access to the tools to test it.
have you tried running an oil flush through it? it might be a blockage in the oil system. pro-tech do a good one not sure if you can get this in shops but most car accessories shop have a range of them if it doesn`t work and the oil pressure is ok they may need to be replaced
