What is the differance between red diesel and normal diesel?
Answers:
red deisle isn't taxed and is used for agricultural/ commercial use (eg tractors). desiel is taxed and used for road. called red desiel because dies inside of tank red, not allowed to use red desiels for normal road use, becuase gov'rnment don't get money for it- so don't get causght using it.
Yes, one is what's called home heating "oil" and the other is considered diesel fuel. Same thing. Just don't get caught driving a commerical diesel vehicle with dye in the gas tank.
Normal diesel is for cars! Red diesel is for things like tractors! Its illegal to put red diesel in cars something to do with the amount of tax you pay I think!
If I recall correctly, red diesel is 'tagged' with dye. This fuel is subsidized by the government (it's not taxed as heavily as regular diesel fuel) to aid businesses and people who qualify. It is not exactly the same as regular diesel and will damage the injectors in some diesel engines. It is meant for use as a heating oil not for vehicle fuel.
Red diesel has a dye in it that will colour the inside of the enging, to prove that it has been used. The point is the price paid for it: red diesel is net of tax, so is not for road vehicles.
Red deisel is dyed red and is only intended for off road use. There really is no difference between red and clear deisel. But because deisel is used for more than trucks, they dye it to be able to tell the difference. Tractors and other farm machinery can red the red deisel because they never see a road. Therefore they shouldn't be paying road taxes on the fuel they use. Thus why it is dyed red. If a person gets caught with red deisel in a regular truck they get nailed with the federal charge of tax evasion.
Chemically they are the same.
There is no tax on red deisel, so it's about 30p per litre. There is a dye added that stains metal, so you can be traced if you have been using it illegally.
It is sold to farmers and industry. You are not allowed to use it in your car
Its the colour virtualy no revenue on red normal taxed to the hilt.
"Red" diesel is for use in vehicles such as tractors and is not for use in cars. My local garage actually advertises that they sell it and show the price! I've not seen that anywhere else!
Red diesel is used in tractors and for domestic heating and has a red dye in it, and you pay less tax, White or ordinary diesel is for cars which has a higher tax.
Red diesel is merely normal diesel that is "dyed". The reason is for road tax purposes. The red diesel is made for off road use (construction, farming etc.) and is sold at a cheaper price (not taxed). If you are a truck driver and you get pulled by the police they may take your fuel cap off to see if it is dyed or not. If it is dyed you will probably recieve a substantial ticket.
Red has a "dye" added to tell HM Customs that its for "Agricultural" use only ..ie Tractors . JCB's .and No VAT is put on this fuel.. you can run any car / truck on this with no affects to the car/ truck.. BUT get caught by the police and your in Big trouble.
The cost is about 50p per ltr for red .!! ( very cheep ) but not worth the risk .
what about vin diesel?? huh?? ever think of that?!
Diesel fuel is very similar to heating oil which is used in central heating. In Europe, the United States and Canada, taxes on diesel fuel are higher than on heating oil due to the fuel tax, and in those areas, heating oil is marked with fuel dyes and trace chemicals to prevent and detect tax fraud. Similarly, "untaxed" diesel is available in the United States, which is available for use primarily in agricultural applications such as for tractor fuel. This untaxed diesel is also dyed red for identification purposes, and should a person be found to be using this untaxed diesel fuel for a typically taxed purpose (such as "over-the-road", or driving use), the user can be fined US$10,000. In the United Kingdom it is known as red diesel, and is also used by agricultural vehicles. Diesel fuel, or Marked Gas Oil is dyed green in the Republic of Ireland. The term DERV (short for "diesel engined road vehicle") is also used in the UK as a synonym for diesel fuel. In India, taxes on diesel fuel are lower than on gasoline as majority of the transportation, that transports grains and other essential commodities across the country, runs on diesel.
Unfortunatly one of the previous answerers may have misled you by implying that red diesel is simply heating oil, this is incorrect, red diesel in the UK is untaxed diesel and is dyed red so that it can be easily detected by officials in order to deter improper use, ie using it in your car as well as your tractor.
Red Diesel is illegal when put into a car, van etc
The main difference is the amount of duty paid. I think at the moment its about 7 pence a litre on red diesel. Then obviously the colour which is just a dye.
Yes, red is mainly intended for agricultural use but it can also be used by some boats.
In rural areas Customs and excise do regularly dip tanks by the road, checking for vehicles using red illegally and its not just the lorry's, diesel cars will also be checked.
It is possible to either recolour or remove the dye from red diesel. And going by the size of the bust locally by the Police and customs and Excise it must by a very lucrative business.
Tax. And it's illegal to use red diesel in a vehicle for which it is not intended.
I am given to understand (by farmers) that red diesel is what powers all the farmers Land Rovers (even the discoveries etc that are used as cars), it is not just restricted to 'farm' use, it is a government 'perk' for farmers. Those of you that do not live in the English countryside are probably unaware that this is WHY they use large 4x4's to go everywhere in, you would if your fuel cost what theirs does.
Originally brought in for agricultural machinery, it seems that the definitions have become somewhat blurred.
Apparently, there are even tractors and large trailers being used as lorries, competing with haulage firms that have to pay full price for their diesel.
oooooh, now why do you want to know that? cos u really don't wana get caught usin it in a car, they will take ur car away, they did with a friend of mine whose a farmer, he got in big s''t
RED..
red diesel, is only available to farmers, etc. and it has less tax on it.
red diesel is not allowed to be used on the roads, and U can be fined if Ur found using it, tractor have a switch in the engine bay, so that they can switch between red and white (normal) diesel
red diesel has a special dye in it which makes it a reddy colour, it can be filtered out, but it is extremely hard to do, and the cost of doing it, makes it not worth doing as it brings the cost in line with white diesel
