Ford Focus steering pulls to the left?

I bought a used 2000, W Focus recently. 1.8L Zetec model. The only defect is that the steering pulls to the left. I struggle to notice it apart from on long straights. What would cause this? I have checked the tyres by 'eye' and it seems fine.

Answers:
Try swapping the front tires from left to right and see if it changes, if it does then a bad tire is causing this, if not then the front end needs alignment. Also be sure tire prs. is the same all the way around
you need an alignment could be breaks sticking on left hand side.
Checking it by eye won't do anything. Take it to a shop that handles front end work and have the front end checked out. You probably need to have it aligned.
I heard that many focus' do this if not all, it is a design fault I think.
my escort did the same thing. you need a wheel alignment. maybe getting the tires balanced will help too.
the wheels arent aligned
low air pressure will cause it to pull to one side also if it just a little out of alignment it will pull some id take it in and have it checked out just to make sure it does not have any problems with the front end ,since its used it would be a good idea to be safe with it,,good luck i hope this help,s.
Take it down to Kwik fit and get them balance your wheels and chk the tracking. Also chk the brakes as they could be pulling on one side..Get it done asap you don't wanna do a emergency stop and swerve on to the pavement .
if the clutch has been replaced recently you could find the sub frame is out of line specially if it has not been done by ford
check this out first if not tracking is out
If it does it while your hands are not on the wheel, then it could be your wheel alignment, you need to get it checked properly, not by eye. But if it does it under braking, then it could be your offside brakes that are not working correctly.
Take it back! First check your reciept, if it says sold as seen you have NO comeback. But make sure you get it checked, if you continue to drive it the police can do you for having an unsafe vehicle on the public highway!
Alignment, brakes sticking (sticky caliper), low tire air pressure, even a bad tire with a broken cord could make this feeling, All of which should be minor costs overall.
it sounds like either the tracking is out or the nearside brake caliper is sticking on , to check tracking look for uneven wear on tyres hope this helps
blow the nearside tyre up.. the camber of the roads in the UK run to the kerb, so when you have a heart attack and release the wheel, you go into the kerb, not the oncoming traffic.

so long as it brakes in a straight line, itll be ok. if your worried, goto any stop and steer type franchise and get it checked.
Cross the 2 front tires and see how it drives.
Could be many things Tracking, suspention bushes, engine mountsor a cracked wish bone to mension a few take it to preformance ford they will solve it.
most uk roads camber to the left for drainage so all cars will run off to the left a bit.
easy answer is don't let go of the steering wheel.
