Got a chip in the windscreen, passenger side below the wipers. Would this fail an MOT?
Answers:
Unless it is structurally unsafe the chip has to be in a box in front of the drivers line of sight - can't remember the dimensions (you can get that from an MOT prep site or a Haynes manual).
Doesn't sound like you should have any problem especially as it is so low.
It would be advisable to get it repaired though as they can crack . mostly you get this done on a fully comp insurance without losing any no-claims.
Depends on the state / country - call an inspection shop they will tell you (don't call a glass company).
Normally no that will not cause it to fail.
Yes you need to get it repaired asap
hmmm I dont know, I wouldn't think so. But get it fixed now before it cracks all the way across it's will be much cheaper to have it fixed now.
Yes
Depends on the size of the chip, just call in a garage that does MOT's and ask, that wont cost you just for asking the question!
No I don't think it would, I think it needs to be in the driver's line of sight as you said, but then again some mechanics are more picky than others so it probably depends where you get your MOT done.
Throw some dirt on the spot to camouflage it. But you should know that it's pretty dangerous because it has weaken the integrity of the glass and it has higher likelihood of shattering when you drive
I had a crack in my windscreen on the passenger side. Even though it was covered up by the tax disc it still failed and a new windscreen was required. It's not just impairing the drivers line of sight which is the failing factor here, but the fact that a crack can significantly weaken the windscreen and can be very dangerous.
depends how big it is smaller than 30mm you are ok but should get it fixed just for safty
Yes - But you can it repaired FOC if you are fully comprehensive insured. You are allowed one repair each year for a repair up to size of £1 coin. Check with insurance company for name of local windscreen repair specialists.
No it will not fail the mot check. But I do suggest if it is of any size that you go to a windshield repair shop and have it fixed. They put something on it to prevent it from cracking any more and usually your insurance will pay for this and its guaranteed by the repair shop not to crack any further. Try the yellow pages for a place near you.
It wont fail th mot but the screen can fail at anytime as this can develope in to a crack call autoglass they will come to you and normally only charge £50
only fail mot if in direct line of sight area.. should be fine as its down the bottom.. put some superglue into chip to stop it going bigger
only if it is in you're field of view
