If you keep the car off the road you need to only get a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) and it may be that you don't need insurance for that, as you won't be driving the car. Give the DVLA a call to check - their number is 0870 240 0009
you need to inform the DVLA that the car is officially off the road
You need to get a SORN form from the post office and fill that in declaring the car off the road
as long as you tell the dvla you wont get fined iv got the same problem
If you are not going to get this sorted quickly then you will need to complete the SORN declaration, the Statutory Off Road Notice, but then you will need to keep it off the roads and highways. It should be with the tax renewal form
just let the dvla know thats its gonna be kept off the road until u get sorted and u should b fine.
i don't know what a tax disc is. but if you don't have insurance, you can't legally drive the car, so if you aren't driving it i don't think it would matter.
Are you in the UK? If so, I (think) you can technically get away with having no tax disc for 2 weeks but as you are not insured you can't drive it. No fine if on the drive
The system has changed so that even if you leave your car on the drive, if the dvla see that your tax is out of date on their computer, a fine will be issued, whether you drive it or not, so you will need to declare it as off the road until the insurance is sorted out.
If you haven't got the insurance sorted out by the time the tax disc runs out, you are legally obligied to inform the DVLA and get a registered as being off the road - SORN. If this is done, and the police find on the road outside your house (even if you have just moved it for 5 minutes to get something out of the garage) you will be subject to a fine, and points put on your licence.
You will get fined, as long as you have the TAG. You must turn the tag in to your local highway department as soon as the insurance is cancelled. (They used to give you 5 days, but now it's immediate). You can be charged $5 a day, for every day you have your tag, but no insurance, up to $200. They can also suspend your license, which will cost you another $200 to reinstate.

You won't get your tax stickers until everything is up to par.

Good Luck!
the tax invoice you recieve from dvla got two options at the bottom #1.i ve scrapped my car #2 my vicle is off the road tick option off the road and take that invoice to post office they will scan the bar code and you are done you will not be fined if you are not out off date
