What might replacing the front bumper cost on a 1998 Vauxhall Astra?
Front bumper on my car is done in, all cracked up, held together with tape after an infuriatingly minor contact (not impact!) while parking. Passenger side mirror also needs replaced after being smacked off by some antisocial type. I can handle swapping the mirror, but having tried to fettle a bumper on another car i've owned, the job has gone into the "do not touch" bank along with "anything to do with brakes".
I know my stuff around the mechanicals, but I'm a bit lost when it comes to bodywork and don't want to get ripped off. So,
1/ How much might a second hand bumper, and a mirror assembly, cost from a breakers? 1998 Vauxhall Astra (older shape, end-of-line), Metallic Silver coded, with foglights or foglight cutouts in bumper.
2/ How much should I reasonably expect to pay for removal of the old bumper and fitting of the new one at a decent garage / bodyshop?

do it u r self this would be the cheapest way its only held on with 4 13mil nuts and u could probrably get 1 from a breakers for about £30 if u do go to a body shop it will be expensive especialy if u bumper is coulor coded as it would have to be resprayed so all in it could cost about £180 if u were in scotland i would do it for u very cheaply
Call round a few scrap yards local to you, I think that's your best bet. The price varies so much from yard to yard, it is impossible to pinpoint a cost for you, it also depends what area you live in. They will give you an idea of cost. There are only a couple of bolts that hold the bumper on, get under and have a look! I am sure you will not need specialist help. Failing that ask at any garage or tyre fitting place (anywhere they work on cars)- just say please can you help me do you have any idea how to get the bumper off - most people will tell you if they know. The breakers yard will tell you if you ask.
