I hope this helps.
My guess, and it should be correct , it should be on or near the heater motor itself. If I am correct, which I think I am, you will have to gain access to the heater motor itself, which may or maybee not an easy job. It depends where the heater motor is situated, either inside the engine bay or worse still under the dash somewhere. Silly thing is, I owned a Merc 220 Elegance up to 3 years ago and had to sell it only because it was too low for me as I had a fistula operation on my left wrist which is my life support access as I have renal failure, I miss the car.
Getting back to your car, are you sure it is the resistor? could it not be the switch or is there some sort of relay in the fuse box? don't ask which one as the merc I owned, if I remember correctly had at least 3 fuse boxes. If I can find my workshop manual for it, i will check it out for you and try and get back to you.

Good luck Jimmy
I will answer your question directly: The component you are looking for is on the driver's side, rear of engine compartment just below the windscreen. In fact half under and behind the bottom lip of the windscreen. Some trim is in the way which is held on with screws hidden under rubber moulding and also some clips. Beware that to change this unit is a right pain in the proverbial and you'll probably have to remove part of the dashboard to get to the other side of it as well, as it is actually mounted in a firewall aperture. Hope this helps and good luck!
