Ist Gear on the Flat??????
Answers:
As a service tech I put the car in first gear on a flat ground for safety, I feel that it is good practice for safety. a car can sometimes roil on what seems to be flat ground. And sometimes people have poor brakes.
a car with a manual trans should always be parked with car in gear. simply for safety. thats old school and women do it too.
If it was an automatic they would put it in park on any surface. They use 1st. on a manual transmission because it is much more difficult to move the car. Remember, if you need to push-start a car, it needs to be in high gear, because it is much easier to turn the engine over.
I do it and I am female. stops it rolling if its hit.
in the winter i always leave my car in first gear and dont use the handbrake in case it freezes on.
Do they.
I was always taught to leave cars in neutral, unless parked on a hill in which case to leave it in 1st gear facing up hill or reverse when facing down
i always put in reverse but the 1 st and reverse is the same gear just backwards, anyway it's for saftey reasons and if you put in first and the ignition starts the vehicle it can leap foward and crash into something before you know it, thats why my habit i put it in reverse!
The best thing is to leave vehicle in neutral someone could easily get in assume its in neutral and an accident could result. That's why vehicles have a parking brake.Regards Mick
I DONT. THATS WHAT THE PARKING BRAKE IS FOR.
.I'VE BEEN DRIVING STICK SENSE 1948 AND HAVE ALWAYS PARKED AND PUT IT INTO GEAR.SAFETY FOR ONE THING AND I STILL PLACE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON .NOTHING LOST AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED
