I would love to be a lorry driver even though i am female. How do you go about getting your HGV?
Answers:
my dad was an HGV driver-long haul.. always wanted to do that, but when I was little women just did not do it, or not many, so being female does not stop you now. the tractors are easier to drive now and most HGV drivers dont unload, tis done by warehouse staff.. follow your dream, heres some links and info.
??
Assuming you are from the UK
You need to write an email or telephone the DVLA in regards to acquiring DVLA HGV license.
See their website for criteria and contact information at:

Hey, don't let being a female stop you!
Cannot help with the practicalities but if you are a competent driver and probably need to be above 21, find out how you can get lessons/test for HGV.
Go girl. Make YORKIES a girls chocolate bar.
Good luck!
dont know if there is a waitin period but check out red rose training, they rent a big car park were i work an do it there.
Go girl!
Take the HGV driving test hon, just because you are female doesn't mean that you can't do it. Good luck. x
Have a look in your Yellow Pages under HGV Trianing hope this helps
Crack open the phone book under employment agencies, and there should be some there who specialise in HGV drivers. An advisor at one of these agencies should be willing to advise you of how to get into this area of work.
Don't let the woman thing stop you; any firm who refuses you on that grounds is sexually discriminating.
Different countries and states have different requirements for getting your HGV.
In the U.K you need to get a provisional licence for class 2 vehicles then once you have your class 2 you can apply to drive HGV's.
The courses can be found in any phone book or online but they are not cheap. The lessons, test and theory will cost you around £1000 and you will need the class 2 before you get your HGV so I'd say a minimum of £2000.
At the beginning of the test you will be asked five vehicle safety questions which will be a combination of "show me" and "tell me". For more information about the vehicle safety questions, please see the section below.
You will be examined on your general driving and on set exercises. The set exercises will include:
an ‘S’ shaped reverse into a bay
a braking exercise
demonstrating the uncoupling and re-coupling procedure if you’re taking a test with a trailer
If you take your test in a manual vehicle, you will be asked to carry out a gear-change exercise during the general driving element of your test.
The drive on the road last about 60 minutes and the overall test takes about 90 minutes
give your self a bit more time on the road but as you have only had your licence a short time depending what size lorry you want to drive whether a 7.5 tonne or class 2 or 1.i would think you would have to do class2 before class1.there are off road course you can do to train you but it it is expensive at about 1100 quid.good luck with your endeavour.
Well depends how old you are luv.Got to be over 21.Check oot HGV in yellow pages in your area.Go for it girl, could do with some hot trucker chicks out there.
I went through my local jobcenter who arranged my training, only problem is I'm 24 and alot of compaines don't like touching under 25's for insurance purposes and there's nothing wrong with being female, I know quite a few female drivers but there definately needs to be more of us!
just coz Ur a girl doesn't mean U shouldn't drive lorries there a quite a few women lorry drivers.
there are a few ways to get a HGV license,
1. join the army, they will train U on their lorries pay for Ur test etc, U do have to work with them for about 5 to 10 years tho, but U can learn to drive them from the age of 17
2. get a job with a company who is willing to train U to drive a lorries
3. U can pay for Ur own lessons, this is very expensive tho
options 2 and 3 U will have to wait till Ur 21 to learn to drive them
Yeah why not us women can do everything even quite better than men, but be at least 23 , and a bit heavy so your can have control on the vechile you need to be strong, when I was 17 I wasnt so strong like im now at 21 so im gald I did the driving now , cause im older and my bone have gonw stronger too, hope you underdstand
