Anyone got a audi a4 tdi not pulling well below 2000 rev any idea whats wrong computer plug in showed nothing
Answers:
The manufacturers saying they can plug in a pc and get all the faults is complete rubbish.
They can only pick up the symptoms as they happen, intermittant and mechanical faults are sometimes impossible to find.
Try another dealer or try an audi owners newsgroup on the net, i use one for my porsche and they've been a massive help because most faults have been seen thousands of times before.
You might find it is turbo lag, a delay in accelleration until the turbo has had time to kick in.
As it's a turbo could be something as simple as the oil dipstick not being seated properly. If it pulls like you wouldn't believe above 2000rpm this is unlikely but check the obvious first.
Obvious question back at you, is this a new fault or is it just a concern since you had the car?
Cheers
Paul.
Do you know what RPM the turbo comes in? If it's at 2000rpm then this is normal. Turbo deisel cars are notoriously slow until the turbo starts spinning.
Which model A4 Tdi?1.9 or20l?also which year model? is there any signs of black smoke? does the vehicle start easily or not? it could be something as small as a faulty egr valve or choked intake, which will not show up as a fault on the diagnostic tester as they are mechanical faults. Audi makes use of variable vane turbos on certain vehicles and the vanes could be starting to seize. send me an e-mail with more info and I'll try and help
Have you checked your air filter element? Dirty filter =poor performance its very easy to check .
my 2000 model suffered the same and it was a simple little gadget called a lambda sensor , very cheap and simple to do .
check your turbo boost valve if turbo fitted also check egr valve (exhaust gas recirculation)
