Rover 400 diesel. abs light on. o/s/r sensor. does anyone have any experience of this.?
Answers:
I didn't know that Honda had bought Rover.
Hi.First thing to check is under the bonnet.
Look for the abs unit.will probably look like a hefty square unit with lots of small pipes coming off it.similar to a fuel injection unit, but it will be for your abs braking system.
On that unit will be a rather large electronic plug, and usually they have a locking clip or bar there to keep the plug on.
These plugs, and this occurs on many different makes of cars, have a tendancy to either work loose, or get dirty contacts.
Therefore check that out visably first..then take it off and clean all the contacts..then replace carefully and make sure it is properly seated before locking with the clip.
Then see if that cures it.if not then you probably have a problem with a sensor, and this will need to be done at a garage, unless you are a good mechanic of course.
Good luck, and hope this helps.
Different car (Saab) but same symptoms, this was caused by the wheel speed sensor on my car, taking it off and cleaning the face cured it for me, but you have to be carefull when taking it out not to break it.
If that doesn't cure it you have to replace the sensor, but at least you know which one it is.
probably brake dust on the sensors.
