Catalitic converter?

Hi People,

I have a 1.4 Vauxhall Astra.

The problem I have is that I have a bloked CAT (Catalitic Converter) and can't really afford the £350 that Vauxhall want to replace it.

I have heard that there is a liquid solution that you can apparently buy that you mix with the petrol, which cleans the CAT. I assume it is like Injector cleaner, which you put in the petrol tank.

I have searched online and can't really find anything about it, has anyone heard of this stuff, and and if so, what is it called, and where can I buy it? Just a name will do, so that I can do the rounds and ask all the motor factors in the area!

Plz plz plz!

Many Thanks

Glenn

No..No..NO!
It will not work!
Catalytic Converters work by changing harmful gasses (i.e. smog) to healthy gasses (i.e.oxygen), by a process known as "electrolosys" .
This conversion is effected by the use of precious metals, for example, platinum, which are used to make effluvia more eco-friendly.
There is no "fluid" that can make your CAT work more efficiently
It's "snake oil" in a new package.
Save your money and just replace the CC.

If it failed prematurely, look into the reasons why.
Improper fuel mixture. too rich. too lean
Backfires..
Exhaust temp just too high.
All of these can cause a CC to fail before its time.
Try flushing it out with thick tar
There are such products available. Try these links:

I would just pull it off, take a piece of round steel, bend the end, chuck it into a drill, shove it inside, and ream it out. Hollow cats won't get clogged.
There is no other solution other than to replace the cat converter, use extreame caution here, the cat converter getting clogged could be the result of other problems,if not repaired you may may end up replacing alot more expensive items, such as the engine or vehicle itself.

Stay away from the "tune-up in a can" fix`s,they do not work, ever.
You need to make sure the cat has failed first got to an mot station and get the emissions checked and see whats happening in the engine, the engine management system might be at fault for causing this, and why £350 ? you dont need to buy a vauxhall cat you can go to an exhaust centre and they will get you one from another manufacturer Bosal for instance is a good aftermarket brand, aslo the stuff in a tin, forget it not many of these so called wonder products work
