How much would it cost?

My internal locking system on my car doors makes a weird noise whenever I lock/unlock it, it is getting worse and wondered if anyone would have an idea as to how much it would cost to fix? My car is an automatic 1995 rover 416 but runs really well, I only have this problem with the locking system. Is it worth keeping the car? or will it cost me more than the car is worth?

I had the same problem with a 400 series, I suggest that you give the door locks a good clean up. Try using a 1 inch paintbrush and some turps, open the doos and really work the turps into the lock mechanism. Pick a warm day and then leave the doors open to allow the turps to evaporate, careful though because the turps will make a mess on the ground. After it has tried use some spray oil or WD 40 on the locks.

The bad news is that the car may be a bit smelly with the turps and the WD 40 so open the car doors wide before you start.

The reason that its happening is the motor that works the locks is getting a bit old and tired now, so give it the least possible work to do!
I have a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria, and last year the same problem occured - the locking mechanism started making noise and then, after several weeks, stopped working. It cost me $115.00 to have it fixed, mostly time and labor to remove the door panel.
To get new locks for your car should not cost a lot but to have them fitted might. I think it depends on how you feel as to weather its worth it to get it repaired. go to a garage and ask them for a quote, this should be free and will give you some idea of the cost
Head to a breakers yard. as always do your research first, try everyone
a 1995 rover give us a break its not even worth putting petrol in never mind paying for reapirs
Call bulldog security or anyone who makes keyless entry systems..you can go to mcminone.com too. You need to buy some door lock actuators. You can cut the old electric ones loose and install aftermarket. The parts are under 100 bucks.
have you tried greasing the locks??

tub of grease, put some on your key and put it in the locks. go round them all a couple of times.. it could be that all the existing grease has now dried up!!
I agree with Sue if it works (which it should)give her the 10 points
