My steering lock on my Vaux astra has jammed,is there any way I can disengage the lock i.e. break the locking?

Answers:
right,
if your key can turn to position 1 your already half way there!
remove couling from around lock,
insert key and turn to position 1,
if you look at the bottom/side of the barrel housing you should find a small slot?
find a small screwdriver or something simalar that will fit in the hole and press it in,
this in turn (with a wiggle)should release the ignition barrel from the housing?
simply replce the ignition with new/second hand unit and jobs done without causing any damage to locks!
HUH?
pull the wheel as sharp and as hard as you can to the side and it should break.
this works on the older models as i done this to my sisters astra after she lost the keys. (found them an hour later)
open the door, stand outside the car, grab the steering wheel on quarter of the way round (think of a clock, lift at 3oclock) and lift up as if your trying to lift the whole car.
this uses the cars own weight against the lock. less effort on your part.
Can you turn the key to the first stage ? If not it may be the key barrell
very dicey thing to do if you are going to drive it , could jam
Ok here is how to do it right
remove the sounding plastic find the tops of the shear bolts that hold the lock in place ( they will look like big gold rivets as the head gets snapped off during fitting) take a centre punch ( don’t miss this bit you will only make life real hard for yourself) centre punch the middle of the bolts then drill straight down about 13mm with a 3mm drill bit , now you will need an “ Easy Out” or if you don’t have one of these you can try with a self tapping screw and some supper glue ( but that’s a bit hit and miss)
remove the shear bolts and the lock will come off ( you can then do same and breakers yard to get replacement ( If you used self tap screws you can just put the old blots back in until the screw heads shear off but new bolt is cheep enough)
