Which car is better for longer journeys, a Vauxhal corsa or a Volkswagon Golf?

Answers:
The Vauxhall Corsa is one of the worst modern cars ever made especially as Vauxhall should know better. The first one is very pretty but that is about it. The second one is not hideous but what other redeeming features are there? There are many better small cars available than a Corsa. Apparently the NEW Corsa about to be launched is much better. Golfs on the other hand are fine cars. Every incarnation has been good. The Mk3 and Mk4 are a bit tubby compared to the first two, to be fair. The current Mk5 is a fine car indeed. Quite frankly any Golf including a Mk1, I would rather have compared to any Corsa!
Volkswagon
I would go for the golf, nicer car to drive and you won't end up with "corsa back". ie a very painful back from driving a corsa long distances.
Depends on the spec.but i'd say the golf wins hands down.
Vauxhal corsa is better because it saves you petrol and a good car. Although Corsa is a bit down for a start and then it beats Golf by 100%. Corsa is cheaper and better lasting. I suggest you shoul get Corsa. Corsa is great for begginners and a reasonable car.

Yeah
Volkswagen golf Corsa is very uncomfortable after only a short journey.
get a yugo
Golf, hands down!!
Never driven a Golf, but I did 400 miles in my Corsa (on A roads to scotland) and found that the ride was OK. The only problem was the noise of the wind over the roof - very loud! I also found it got blown about a bit by cross winds.
Apart from that, I didn't get back ache and there was very little noise from the tyres on the road (something a lot of people complain about in the Corsa). Overall, a good drive (I wouldn't have been able to do it in my old Peugeot)
Volkswagen Golf by far.!
i have a corsa and i drive a corsa van at work
you butt starts to go numb after 20 miles

so i would recommend the golf
definately the golf for travelling on long journeys and also for long motorway miles . id have the golf any way heres a review for you!!

Volkswagen Golf Review & Road Test
Review by www.new-car-reviews.co.uk

Drivers
The Volkswagen Golf has a choice of 12 engines, which includes three turbodiesels and one diesel. Of the petrol engines the 1.4 is a little underpowered, the best engine is probably the 115 bhp turbodiesel powering the Golf Gti Tdi, at the top of the range is the R32 at an awesome 240 bhp. The Golf is more of a cruiser than its competitors and motorway driving is a relaxing experience, about town however the softer suspension results in too much body roll and bounce. The all wheel drive 4Motion provides good handling but the rest of the range is behind many of its competitors in this area. Once inside the Golf it is clear why these cars generate a loyal following, the cabin oozes quality and is well designed and laid out. Driver seat height is adjustable and the seats provide good support, steering is adjustable for both rake and reach. Power steering is standard and visibility is good although large rear pillars restrict the rearward view.

Passengers
Front seats are quite large and comfortable whilst rear passenger space is adequate if not class leading. The Golf is a quiet car for its class with low levels of wind, road and engine noise - even at motorway speeds. The VW Golf is now equipped with air conditioning or climate control as standard (except E models) and despite the soft ride the quality of the interior cossets passengers.

Practicality
The Volkswagen has split rear backrests and cushions that give the good-sized boot additional flexibility. Internal storage space is also good, with a decent sized glove box, space in the doors and in a central armrest.

Equipment
Standard equipment on the Golf includes driver, passenger and side-impact airbags, anti-lock brakes, anti-skid control. Air conditioning or climate control is standard on all but E models and the stereo is upgraded to include a CD on all models above SE.

Safety & Security
The Volkswagen Golf has a number of safety features as standard and consequently performed very well in NCAP crash tests for drivers, passengers and pedestrians. The Golf's security systems are reasonable but not class leading.

Quality & Reliability
This is where the Golf clearly outperforms most of its rivals, the quality of the materials used and the attention to detail clearly shine through giving the car a luxury feel. Historically, Golf's have a better than average reliability record and the mechanicals on the new models are backed by a three year warranty.

Owning
The VW Golf has best in class running costs which are due primarily to very good resale values (expect to recover around 50% after 3 years) and low servicing costs. All of the engines are reasonably economical, with the exception of the V5 and V6.
im not sure if you know anything about cars but dont go for the r32 and the big v6's if you want a good fuel economy then id go for the 1.9turbo diesel 115bhp there actually fast as i have one and ive never had a problem with it!!

Vauxhall Corsa Review & Road Test

Drivers
The Vauxhall Corsa is an excellent car for urban driving. Superb visibility, light steering and a smooth clutch making the car easy to park and throw around in the city traffic. However the petrol engine variant needs to be revved quite hard to get it to perform and the Corsa performs better at higher speeds. The Corsa is available with 1.1, 1.2 and 1.4 litre engines. The 16V larger engine delivers the best performance with 90 bhp and decent fuel economy of 39 mpg. For those looking for better fuel economy there are 1.7 and 1.8 litre diesel/turbo diesel engines on offer. However the diesels sound and feel a little raw and unsophisticated compared to their peers. Overall the Vauxhall Corsa provides a very easy and smooth ride but as a consequence drivers who like to be a little "closer to the road" may bemoan a lack of "feel".

Passengers
The main problem with the Vauxhall Corsa is the lack of room for passengers. Travelling fully loaded with 4 people is not a pleasant experience. Road and engine noise can also be a bit of a problem at high speeds. On the plus side the Corsa is very comfortable and well kitted out in most trim selections giving the interior a plush feel.

Practicality
Whilst the trend amongst competitors has been to increase cabin space Vauxhall attempts to make amends with a relatively large boot space for a car of this size. The Corsa also comes with a split rear seat to add flexibility.

Equipment
Expect to pay extra for what would be standard on competitor models. The basic Vauxhall Corsa comes with power steering but only one airbag. Even some supposedly higher specification models come without CD players and air-conditioning.

Safety & Security
As highlighted for Equipment, it's the same story for Safety related items. Customers will have to pay extra for a passenger airbag, side airbags and ABS. However even without these extras, NCAP testing indicates that the Corsa is provided with a sturdy shell to resist crash injuries. Buyers concerned about theft will have to pay extra for deadlocks.

Quality & Reliability
Engine reliability and build quality are high as should be expected from Vauxhall. Buyers should expect durability and steady performance day in, day out. The exterior body is well put together and extremely sturdy. This contrasts a little with the interior which is not assembled to the same quality level.

Owning
Excellent fuel economy, low maintenance and low insurance costs make the Vauxhall Corsa a cheap car to live with. However new Corsa's are sold in large volumes which means high depreciation compared to its rivals. On the positive side strong demand coupled with a reputation for durability mean that re-sale is not a problem.

the smaller engines in these cars wouldnt be any good good for long jouneys on motorways and things in my 1.9 tdi golf i get over 47 mpg on the motorway!
Depends on your priority:-

Comfort = Golf (approx 39.8 mpg for 1.4)
Economy = Corsa (approx 64mpg for a 1.3 TD/53mpg for 1.1 12v)
Safety = Golf (Mark 5 has 5 Euro NCAP stars) Corsa (4 Euro NCAP stars)
Golfito, way better.
Golf without a doubt. Even a top of the range Corsa will be more tiring to drive on longer journeys. Being lighter it bounces round more and Golfs have much more mid-range power than Higher spec Corsa's due to the design of their engine. That will mean less gear changing. A Corsa is fine to get to the shops but they were never designed for long journeys and although they are capable of doing it, you'll really know you've had a journey.

One capital thought, if you see someone that is comfortable driving they rarely drive dangerously, or suffer from road rage. I have A Ford Escort that clearly isn't a comfortable car to drive, and I get easily frustrated in that car (and normally I'm very mild-mannered). I also have a 2001 Jaguar XJr, and in that car I'm always completly relaxed, nothing ever bothers me. So on that basis alone the heavier more relaxing car is the one to go for.
the golf
Golf especially GTi GTD
im a little surprised someone has had to ask this question.
Traditionally if you can afford a golf then you wouldnt even consider a corsa for a split second, until very recently you wouldnt even compare a Astra to a Golf.

Clearly a golf is far better even the bottom of the range 1.6 golf will still be a lot more comfortable on a long journey than the corsa. A poor little corsa with a small engine may do good miles to gallon but will be noisey and underpowered, perhaps the exception being a CDI corsa.
The golf is a much better built car and of course far more reliable. depends what you really fancy but a golf GTI or a TDI are the only cars you could ever need in my view.
It would have to be the Golf As my wife says Size Count and she should know
There is no comparison between a Corsa and a Golf..The Golf is a far superior car, it's larger, more comfortable and better built. I have a car rental business and have not driven a well built Vauxhall for many years.
vw as it is bigger so drivin on motorways is safer and easier.

the crosa will be very sensitive at high speed thus more dangerous. also vw golf is safer as biigger car , in case of crash.

vw built quality is superb.
The golf, great all round car. The corsa is fine for town driving you feel cramped up in a corsa after a while, even if you are on your own.
