If a car has 500 break horse power, does that mean that their is an equivalent of 500 horses in it?

Answers:
500 brake horse= that is the equivalent of power should the 5oo hoses pull it away.
I think this means that it would take 500 horses to stop the car?? - am I wrong anyone?
LOL LOL thats a very funny thought lol - how to squeeze 500 in a mini ho ho ho

But seriously - I haven't a clue!!
Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's horsepower without the loss in power caused by the gearbox, generator, differential, water pump and other auxiliaries. The actual horsepower delivered to the driving wheels is less. An engine would have to be retested to obtain a rating in another system. The term "brake" refers to the use of a band brake to measure torque during the test (which is multiplied by the engine speed in revs/sec and the circumference of the band to give the power).
yes.. that's the sum total of it. a 2cv is called that because the first ones had the power of 2 horses- deux chevaux - 2CV
the only benefit the car had over the horse was that it needed less hay and didn't produce so much out the rear end.
NO .IT IS 500 b.h.p. a power measurement
Gee i don't know what ur question was but damn u sound sexy call me ;)
BHP means that it takes equivelant to 500 horsepower to stop the motor at its strongest rpm. This is taken at the crank w/ no accessories on the motor. The drivetrain and accessories use 20% of a motors horsepower. With a 500 horse motor you are actually only getting 400 hp to the ground. This is a standard calculation that applies to all automobiles.
Depends if the horses are Shetland ponies or clydesdale
