Does anyone know what the L stands for on an automatic gearbox?
Answers:
Low gear.
This is normally only on a CVT-type automatic transmission, which doesn't have fixed gears (although some now have fake fixed gears to allow a manual mode, eg. Audi Multitronic, Fiat, MG). Most traditional automatics have a positions labelled 1, 2, and 3, which restrict it to the lower 1, 2, or 3 ratios.
It is for when you want engine braking - eg. going down a steep hill, or tight manoeuvring at low speeds.
Low gear
Low gear?
Yep, it stands for low gear.
either launch or low gear. probably the latter.
Low like first and second gear.
Yes mate it means low its for steep hills.

Lambrusco
Low. ie First gear!
When you are going up hill your car will choose this by itself. When you are going down a steep hill, you can select this gear and it will act like a break - stop you going too fast. Don't select this and your car will automatically go up through the gears and your gear box will have no breaking effect.
Low gear or 1st
DEFINATELY LOW GEAR 1st gear is the low gear
longitudily mounted (rear wheel drive).
For instance
4L60
OR
4L60E
The E is for electronic..
Low, it's for going downhill and invoking engine braking. Either that or lightspeed, but my automatics have struggled to reach 100, so it most be LOW.
Low gear, keeps the car in low gears, used for going up or down steep inclines.
low gear ratio, usually only found on a 4 wheel drive
Looks like the answer is low gear
Low gear, use it when on steep hills or towing ect.. just uses more fuel though. :O)
Low Gear (or 1st gear)
Low Gears (First and Second)
Use around town in very slow moving traffic, Multi Story car parks and steep hills.
IT MEANS " LEAVE IT ALONE " IF YOU DON'T KNOW ASK AND DON'T TOUCH

low gear, meaning you only have 1 gear in driving-- you usually shift in this gear when doing a steep climb, or going down..
