Jaguar xjr 4 litre supercharged 1996 model,the power steering goes very heavy when parking ok rest of time .?

iv'e been told at some garages inc jag ones that it could be anything from a seal to a complete steering rack & pump,quotes range from £50 to £1600, & no guaratee that it will cure the problem.when i start it from cold it works perfectly problem is when it's hot & only when i'm parking does the steering go like lead otherwise it's fine,thanks ever hopeful

It's a little complicated to explain but not expensive to repair. Basically your power steering compesates for low speed maneuvers by pumping at a higher pressure so that the steering is lighter, and vice versa, it will be heavier at higher speeds. A common fault is a broken wire (speed sensor). The power steering pumps are pretty robust and do not fail very often, so I would check for loose wiring first. If you are told you need a new pump, get a second opinion. Good luck

You should really try checking that the parking space is empty before you wheel the Jaguar in. I find this helps a lot.
