What advantages are there in fitting a K&N air filter to my focus?

The advantages might be better fuel economy and improved horsepower, but I've never seen any difference in the vehicles that I have installed them in. Also, be warned some auto manufacturers frown on those type filters and if you have problems with your car it may come back to haunt you. Check with the service rep before installing it. There is also a filter called Trueflow, that I think is much better than the K&N. Go to truflow.com and take a look at their online tutorial.
The cone filters will provide a bit better airflow in and therefore increase power minimally and give you minimal gas milage increase. Plus they are reusable so you never really have to buy another one but you'll have to clean it.
As well, you'll have to remember that if you're putting more air in, you should also get rid of more air by adding a less restrictive exhaust system.

A slight increase in gas mileage and perfomance, but also you save money because your air filter is not replaced every few months like traditional ones. It usually only needs maintenence to the air filter 1 -2 times a year.
