Crankcase. what does it used for?
Answers:
In any recipocating engine, there are pistons, rods, and a crankshaft. In an aircraft engine, the cylinders, and head assemblies are removable. Like a Volkwagon bug motor in the seventies. So you have the cylinder assembly, and a crankcase, to hold the crank, and bearings. Even the big piston motors of WW2 had a seperate crankcaes to hold the crank and oiling components.
its in a receprocating engine bascially it hold the cylinders, pistons ,etc.
remember that a recep is a wet sump
In a reciprocating engine, the crankcase is the part of the engine that houses the crankshaft and main bearings. Depending on the design of the engine, it may be a separate part, or could be cast together with the cylinders into an engine block.
