Americans. What if gas cost you eight dollars a gallon?

It works out as something like that in the England. Just wondered what your attitude would be.

Answers:
I'd expect to make more money to compensate. and I would drive less.
I currently ride my bike to the train station and take the train into the city for work. I could get by with minimal gas usage.
doesnt matter, I'd be pissed but it wouldnt keep me from driving
Isn't that what we are paying for bottled water?
It is $3.00 a gallon--and I carpool.
$8.00 a gallon?I guess we would ALL carpool.
I would not mind. I would rather pay eight dollars a gallon if I knew that our money would not go to terrorist countries such as Iran.
Probably just like yours,May GOD Bless You.
we would al carpool just like the goverment is trying to get us to do so we arent so dependent of other countries.
I'd pay 8 bucks a gallon. I have to go to work, so what am I going to do about it? Suck it up and pay it.
would get a bike to go to work in. i live right next to walmart and work is a 5min drive so it will all work out no need for a car and no insurance.
A man got to do what a man got to do.. meaning you can't do anythng about it..
Then it'd be obvious that there is a gas crisis shortage. and then eveybody'd have to buy hydro- cars!
I would have to sell my car, I can barely afford one tank a month as it is. I guess I could very sparingly use one fourth of a tank, but it would not be worth my car note to use it that little. Oh gosh, my head is hurting now..lol.
i wouldnt care i only live 2 blocks from where i work and beside that i drive a gas tanker for local convience store so i pretty much have all the gas i would need if i wanted to just take a little bit out of truck every day.but i dont that would be stealing and i dont steal but i could if it came down to that.
I'd get a horse and buggy.
I live in a rural area that doesn't have public transportation -- no bus, train, subway, NOTHING. I would have to continue to drive my car to work and the grocery store until more public transportation was put in my area.
It's not the same here as it is over there as far as public transportation goes. So, $8.00/gallon -- let's not hope it comes to that but in reality I would just have to bite the bullet and keep on driving.
I'd pay it, and raise my rates. I operate a tow truck
Rioting, mass suicides, complete and utter mayhem.
And that's just the soccer moms!

One thing in all seriousness I think would happen is main streets across the country would see booming business again to the downfall of Wal-Mart stores etc. You'd opt for the shorter trip over a few cents saved on price.
Mortgages would go unpaid car repair would not happen except for warranty repair. Mechanics would go out of busness. Oh S*it! That is happening already. And to top it off we will be buying Smart cars Diesel fuel will get less sulfur and maby some one from england will start importing converting to left drive Vauxalls. I drive a 6.0L Holden Monaro left hand drive we call GTO Pontiac in the states. At $3 I intend to get my share of over 400, V-8 horsepower and pass the little putt putts so fast it blows them off the road.
lived there 6 years, moved back here!

Worked for the govmint.. didn't get to take much out of the mint!

I simply pass the costs on to the consumer!
i always thought that fuel in America was about 10 cents a gallon, mind U i always thought that their gallon was bigger than ours, but it turns out to be smaller, their ton in small too, and their billion
i would be pissed but i would buy at $8/gal
Most of your money is going to the government. Our money is going into the hands of a bunch of thieves. At least if it went to the government, other taxes could be lower.
people will go crazy berly anybody will drive! and everybody will walk
I believe Id have to go look at mopeds! That would sure give me an excuse to get one. I think they would in fact be fun to drive, except when its pouring down rain or when it hailing here in Texas! That's my back up plan!
I was involved with a BBC Radio & TV special in May of 2005, called "Costing The Earth"
Tom Heap & crew spent 4 days driving one of my flex-fuel vehicles here in the U.S. studying ethanol.
Ethanol is just one of the alternative fuels that the U.K. is looking at to help environmentally.
Here in the American Midwest we make ethanol from corn or maze. However it can be produced from wheat or barley in your part of the world.
Brazil produces ethanol from sugar cane & Brazil is near 100% independant of foreign oil.

Most Americans don't realize that the only way to reduce gas prices is to reduce consumption.

They blame rising prices on the government & oil companies.
Please see my BEST ANSWER about gas prices , asked by Donna T .

Obviosely, there is no magic wand that the Bush administration can wave to reduce gas prices either.
If there was I'm sure he would use it to better his approval rating !
And I would think he would lend that wand to Tony Blair to help you out ! LOL

I do feel your pain about fuel prices in the UK and I don't think most Americans understand how good they actually have it. It probably has the Brits shaking their heads in wonder & disbelief at all the whining they see here @Answers about $3 gas prices!

All of the whining in the world won't help .
We must each take responsibility & action.

If you can ..say "Hello" to Catherine Woods & Tom Heap of the BBC from Vicky a.k.a. Ethol in America !

Thanks!
they would get rid of bush as he is to blame for the rise in all our fuel costs with his bloody phoney wars and that goes for blair as well
were moving to indianapolis in november from the uk so I'm used to paying 'kin stupid prices for petrol, I drive a bloody RX8 aswell that does 25mpg.

When we get there there's a Mustang GT with my name on it!! £15,500 brand new!!
I would have get a motorcycle.
Invade Iran
