How much does it cost on average to obtain an HGV licence?

I have a lot of experience in driving 7.5 tonne trucks.

Answers:
If your an idiot ull use clearstone or any of the others that are in the national papers.

Locally depending on area you can get a 5 day set up for 750 or so but no retest but they will do it for the retest fee plus 100 a day. I know that Wallace are good in London and Ritchies in Glasgow, easiest place to sit is Essex as they signed out better with signs.

Check local before you buy ask any class 2 drivers or try and get an agency like driverhire or your boss to pay for it. Failing that become a TA at Grantham PWOG's they do it for free.

Once you get it do you HIAB better money for grab drivers always looking for them
Expect about £1000 + medical fee.

Clealry if you have road experience you will need fewer lessons.
Go here:

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/applydl.h.
According to the DVLA the actual licence is free.

There is a special site apparantly set up by the DVLA to address HGV driver's needs at Commercial Vehicle Operator Events Programme 2006/07
Digital Tachograph that you may want to check out as well.

Good luck :)
