My astra stalls at traffic lights and junctions?

That could be a problem with your EGR valve. It could be stuck open so it would stall when you come to a stop. The simplest way to test the theory without any diagnostic equipment, plug up the EGR with a solid gasket (no holes for the gasses) and see if the problem goes away. This will probably throw a check engine light on, but if it doesn't stall, then you need a new EGR valve. Do not let that go on for any extended amount of time though, it is an emissions control device.
It could be a fuel filter problem but that is usually characterized by an inability to get gas to the engine fast enough so it won't run fine at higher speeds. It is possible that you bought gas with some water in it. Try pouring gas-line anti freeze (which is basically alcohol) in the gas tank and run it down to about 1/4 tank then fill up again at a different gas station.
sounds like an e g r valve ( exhust gas recirculator) older vacume egr's could becleaned if dirty and replaced if diafram had hole pardon me spellin . after that there were some digital egr's i think they were called I have also took those off and cleaned them if they work and just dirty can cause stalling at intersection its just a valve that puts exhust gas back into the motor to reburn just look up on net for picture of it and possible diassemble instuctions. Id personly chuck it and cap the holes its nothin but a horsepower robber but is emision control to so may be illegal to do in some places.
