Why are London buses painted red ?

Answers:
London General (A horsebus operator initially in 1855) adopted a red livery early in their history, they started using Motornbuses by 1908, they were taken over by the Underground Electric Railways of London Group, this formed the largest part of London Transport from 1933 so the central area buses of LTPB were painted red.

From 1986 non-LT operators were allowed to compete. This led to Maroon & Cream Kentish Buses, Yellow & Blue Boroline Maidstone, Green/Yellow Eastern National and Grey-Green (guess) In 1990, after pressure from the Tourist authorities The UK govt said that the privatised LT subsidiaries had to retain red and all new tenders in Zone 1 would be painted 'mainly' red.

TFL and the Greater London Assembly have extended this to the entire GLA area, sightseeing, coaches and paratransit are not included, just ordinary buses.
because they are!
coz they would look stupid painted yellow!
So they are seen by tourists easily
so that they cant hide in trees
so we can call them the big red bus
HI
So they can be seen by tourists! Yellow and red are both good colors to be seen from a distance.
Its an identifying colour, also its a unique color for them from the past. With this bus any where you would know its a london bus
Precaution reasons, red signals stop/safety to people.
so you can see them against the cloudy skies
Cause red is a royal colour.
oh good question! that goes way back in history. there was this kid, john, he was the son of the car painter when london first got buses. now, john's father (walter) wanted to paint the buses blue - BUT. but just as he wanted to start painting the first london bus he had to go for a wee. now john (13 years old at the time) was just finished with helping to paint a biiiiig fire dept. truck and went on to the next vehicle - THE bus. and he thought he could help his dad and get some extra pocket money. so he just continued to spray the bus with the same red color. of course his dad wasn't pleased but there was no fast way to get the red color off and so he just finished the first london bus in a bright red. and once they made their first red bus they couldn't just switch. so, now you know: it was johns fault!
London Buses are red because when they run over pedestrians it doesnt show so bad ;o)

Also it makes them stand out in a busy city so even the dimest of society can recognise them and use them.

Also, I believe there was a vast amount of red paint left over after painting all the letterboxes and they in charge decided it was a good way to get rid of it. paint the buses red.. they tried painting the town red but it ended up looking like a giant fire station.

In reality it's just the colour that was chosen at the time. Other cities have different colour buses. Please don't lose any sleep over it ;o)
they just are it also gives a more refined calssic look personally i like it its better than green or blue
The FOG- - - RED is a color that pierces through the gloom - - - and they look really cool.
Because if they were grey they would be too easily confused with Elephants. silly question as everyone knows that ;-)
The real reason is the post office had too much paint left over after painting the post boxes so they started painting the buses as well

lol
