Ive accidentally put unleaded petrol in my diesel engine!?

Only£5 of unleaded, and then £20 of diesel on top - will that be enough to dilute the damage?

Answers:
Most diesels will tolerate up to about 20% dilution with petrol with little ill effect. In some extremely cold areas, diesel is cut with petrol to improve cold flow characteristics. It seldom gets cold enough in the UK for this to be done -- note the number of lorrys along the roadside on the rare occasion when temps drop below -15C -- so your diesel is probably pure to begin with.

I'd contact a dealer to be sure. At the very least, if the 20 quids worth didn't top up the tank, I'd top it off with diesel just to be safe.

The petrol may loosen up some swarf from the fuel system so it would not be a bad idea to have the fuel filters changed. Also, petrol is more likely to have small amounts of entrained water dissolved in it so it would be a good idea to drain the fuel filters if they're designed to do so. Water is bad in petrol engines but it's death to a diesel.
i think it should mix up ok if not go to a mechanic. it was only a small amount so not sure. i gather the hubby doesnt know
Nope. You are going to have to drain the tank and the whole system.
doubt it , you could be in big trouble , phone a local garage
You may experience backfiring, but you should be okay.
The REAL problem is, doing it the other way around! (deisel into a gasoline engine!) That's DEATH!
DO a mini service change diesel filter you can also buy a diesel cleaner that you put in the tank which cleans all the injectors out good luck
Do not take the chance. You may cause catastrophic damage to your engine.
Try to drain all the fuel from the tank and fuel system, before refilling with a fresh batch of diesel.
The dilution factor you mention may on the surface, seem to be a reasonable assumption, but diesel and petrol do not instantly mix into a homognous fluid, and if you get a few seconds of pure petrol going through the diesel pump and being burned by the engine, It is enough to permanently wreck your poor engine.
Note: Diesel into petrol only causes the engine to come to a stuttering halt at high percentages of diesel into the petrol.
try to ask the AA or rac maybe you can e-mail them,i did the same thing to my 309,i did it my self i just drain the tank.or you can ask Phil on 01794322277 at land-ford garaged.
its OK to drive the gas is deluded by the diesel it may knock a little but it will actually clean the system out ad more fuel"diesel" as soon as you can
