In the UK, does a caravan require a MOT or some type of service to check of road safety?
Answers:
i'm not sure they actually do but to be honest if they dont there are a few things to check before embarking on that long haul to hell during the holiday period. as the carravan normally is bolted to the running gear ( the "A" Frame) the hubs need to be sripped once a year or so and checked for seizure, after all you dont want your poor little car trying to stop itself and the caravan, you want a little help from it too!! Check to see if the brakes on the caravan work if it has them and make sure the emergency cable is in good shape. these need to be checked as most caravans spend their life staionary on your driveway. this helps reduce repair costs. And check to make sure your caravans lights all work too, because you know what the bloody british police are like. And all the hassle these days of changing a bulb then visiting the cop shop etc. and finally check all the bolts on the hitch and towbar for movement and if so tighten em up . sorry for waffling.
Not that I am aware of, although if it is found unroadworthy then your insurance is invalid.
Check with the Caravan Club website.
NO BUT ITS BEST TO HAVE IT CHECKED OVER BEFORE YOU GO ANY WHERE.THE POLICE CAN STILL FINE YOU FOR AN UNROAD WORTHY CARAVAN
