are you talking about the plates ?? depends where you live they are changing hands where i live for about £20000 (mainly b cos its easy to launder money through a taxi if you know what i mean)

In Bournemouth the taxi plates are selling for around £30 000. The cars have to be no older than 5 years old and under go 2 special MOTs per year with expensive requests in order to stay on the road.
In private hire the plates are free though the cars undergo the same rigourous maintenacne thoug you are only allowed to receive radio work which limits your earnings and requires you to pay subs into the taxi company.
the car itself has to be upto 3yrs old, insurance is around 1000 pounds you have to get a disabled chair which is around 150 signs are 40 the radio around 30. so if you do plan to do it you should work long hrs to make it worth while. you do get alot of trouble from customers.
I paid 25,000 GBP for my Taxi which is an E7 plus a lot of other expenses to get it working,, you have to pay the local council then sign up for a circuit as being a Hackney no longer provides enough work so you have to pay a circuit fee to get work from the data head, I look at £270 a week in expenses plus around £125 in fuel before I even earn a pound for myself,, you gotta love long hours or you can forget it. Imagine how many 3 pound fares you gotta do !! and the trouble from customers is very little,, you meet some nice people,, 1% spoil it but I can live with them for the freedom I have in my working life
