I have a Haynes manual which says to "unscrew the two ventilation nozzle/switch trim panel securing nuts" but my car seems to have a metal clip rather than a nut and I can't figure out how to undo it.

Hello if you push the outer ends of the gold coloured clip apart you will narrow the width of the clip at the far other end and the plastic panel might then slide forward over it till it gets to the narrow part of the clip then you may need to let go of the clip and the panel might then come off?
