Well I know what the kids will choose!
IMHO, neither.

Check out www.carsurvey.org

It'll give you a good idea what people think of the cars.

If you want a jag, look at other high spec cars, like Lexus. But personally, not a Mitsubishi..
Go for a Honda! They're great cars, good on gas, and hold up really well!
1995 blueish-green Chevy Lumina.
According to Which Car the most reliable second-hand car you can buy is a Ford Focus. I'm sure you could get quite a nice one for £6k.
neither is ideal for you with small children sorry its not the answer you wont but its a ford focus
well a jag or a galant, you know whats best get the B.M.W 318i
go for the jag , and handcuff and gag the kids before letting them in
save your cash and get the bus
jaguar and the galant will both hammer you for maintenance, with 2 kiddies has to be the focus!
It baffles me why the www.reliabilityindex.co.uk guy skipped nr3:
Mazda MX5. Perfectly little sports car! (well, not REALLY sports, but ok.)
jaguars are unreliable so thats out of the question in my opinion, a galant? no thanks there are much better cars out there, especially for £6k
so in answer to your original question i'd have to say neither.
go for a few test drives in various cars and see what "feels" right then check parkers guide etc http://www.parkers.co.uk/ to see what other owners actually feel about the car.
If those are your two choices - I think the Galant is more for you. The Jaguar will find more time in the shop -- and though you will feel glamourous on the days you are driving it -- you will feel like a pauper when you get the repair bills.

Not everything is covered on the Jag's warrantee - and oil and filter changes at a Jaguar dealership are extremely expensive.

I tell you this from first-hand experience. Mine is still under warrantee till January 07 - and I'm happy to say I sold it last month!

Find a reliable - low-maintenance car for yourself. Take a bit of time and do research. Also, you might want to check mileage. My Jaguar only got 17 to 18 miles to a gallon -- Back in the early '90s I owned a Mitsubishi - that got then more than 25 miles to a gallon (in city driving).
I have a Saturn SW2 and its great on gas, safe and reliable. I get 35 mpg on city streets, and 45 mpg on highways. Plus, with the gas prices it only takes $20 u.s dollars to fill up my tank.
