Why did Ford stop making the Ford Cougar after only 4 years in production?
Answers:
Well I see that the cougar was offered by ford in the UK up intill 2001. They could have stopped offering it over there due to a reduction in their car fleet and a greater demand here in the US for SUV's.
Ford's restructuring plan in 2002 decided to cancel the Cougar (along with the Ford Escort, Lincoln Continental and Mercury Villager).
Cos it was pants
Because of the cost and market
LEMON!
'cause it wasn't selling well
If you mean the one that Mercury's been making, the cougar's been around for a while. It shared the same chassis with the ford thunderbird for a long time. Now mecury makes the small sporty looking couger and the thunderbird was redesigned to match it's retro classic style.
They weren't selling enough on them.
Because they weren't able to sell many cars of it!
. . . says it all - even for Ford . . .
ah did you know that they made it before i think they should not have given it that name they should be more original and so should the others like the t bird and charger and and and they cant compare to the old style so why try.
Cause it was pants and Mazda didn't want to make it for them anymore probably
Mercury first made the Cougar on the Mustang platform back in the 60's and then the Thunderbird platform later.
cougar has been around since the 60's
The last cougars were a 2 door ford contour, which had a lot of wire problems, and they didn't sell many.
The sales on the cougar were dropping, 1 of the reasons was the back window was so small it became dangerous. And ford had to out with something better for more sales as ford sales have been dropping.
When the Mk. 1 Mondeo was replaced with a new Mondeo, the Ford Cougar which was based on the MK 1 Mondeo was dropped in Europe. The car was sold in the United States as the Mercury Couger and was also discontinued.
I dont think it was selling too well.
My brother had a V6 cougar, fantastic engine in a thrown together body and horrendous plastic trim, real shame.
Mercury that is, wasn't making enough money ? Shame, Ford gave the Probe more time
It was mercury, and I think cause they were so ugly.
i think its because the angular styling was ahead of its time, the shape looks contemporary today. im a car dealer and i specialise in them, and have sold loads, they are popular with many ladies as well as men. the v6 engine is really smooth , its good value for money, it looks great, has loads of kit , a huge boot, and is probably the most practical sports coupe you can buy.
ps if anyone wants to buy one im in the stockport area my website is www.gdtmotors.co.uk
cos they were shyte n didn't sell well
mercury introduced the ford cougar in 1967 in a coupe or convertible. in 1980 Bobby Allison raced a mercury cougar and won 4 nascar races.man these cars have been around for a long time.
