I would probably sell the design to make money legitimately. if I tried to keep it someone would 'carpet-jack' me and I'd be out of luck.

no way, but i am a capitalist so i would Paton the design and sell it to over sea investors, Big bucks. I would make millions maybe billions, then i would invest that money and make even more.
