Hi I have a 1997 528i BMW (Euro RHD) that has developed an irratic idle.?
Can someone tell me what I need to do to fix my problem.
Answers:
a friend had the same thing happen to his e34 525i
he had the oxy sensor checked but nothing so he stripped the engine down cleaned everything up changed filters, check pipes for blockages etc but nothing changed until some one told him to check his mass airflow meter it turned out to be faulty so he swaped it for a after market version (couldnt find a oe version) from the staes and bingo sorted
Dont know if this will help but it maybe worth a check just in case
Souds like dicky fuel supply.

irratic idles. thats just the start, still to come is high revs when driving, revs shooting up to 5000 when you take your foot of the accelerator, cutting out at will including when driving 60mph down the dual carraige way, engein feels lumpy i know this sounds silly but when you feel it you will understand, new head gasket, 4000 miles later another head gasket. sold the car to a dealer with all the rev faults undiagnosed despite been in the garage every week and having £100s spent on it my advice sell it now
If its something to do with the oxygen sensors, it could be something as innocent as needing a new air filter or sensor! If its regularly serviced it should be fine (obviously), I take my 320i to a local mechanic who owns one himself as BMW ripped me off! Maybe even a breather pipe is blocked? Shouldn't be too serious
don't know
