Bought car lighter for golf gti mk3 and dont know how to fit it cause it just falls out. Anyone know how?

bought from germany via e bay and it is supposed to be for the mk3 gti but the casing on the new lighter is too small for the casing in the car. tried taking the casing off the old lighter, but cant! help me

looks like the collar is stretched - mine does the same because I use mobile phone/sat nav chargers in there.
