Good luck with your search.
Skodas in Europe currently rate #2 in terms of overall quality. Since they're owned by VW, you get all the Volkswagen good stuff without the VW quality problems. I've driven them on trips to Europe, and find them to be very fun to drive, solid on the road, and easy to care for. If they were sold in Canada, I'd be buying a Skoda without even blinking.
In short, GET IT.
There are a couple of fellas I work with that swear by them. To be fair neither has the 1.9TDi or estate versions, they have the 1.4 petrol 5 door hatchbacks, but there must be something in to them with the VW ownership.
V.W. Shot themselves in the foot with Skoda. They bought the skoda brand and managed to turn it into a german quality car,and a lot of people now buy them instead of a proper v.w. compare the prices and you will see volks are much dearer for same quality.
Most fun you can have without going to bed, bought the wife one in 2002, she loves to sit at the lights and burn off all the idiots. At 70mph it does 50 mpg. Buy one! I`m an Ex Skoda salesman and its one of the best power to weight combinations out there
sound car, go for it! diesel is the future!
I own a Fabia VRS turbo diesel, brilliant car.
Today (4 Sept) I took a Fabia VRS for a test drive. It has the same size engine as the one you mention in your question.
It's an absolute beauty of a car. Comfortable (most important) and I had a sales rep next to me so could not really floor it.
But the acceleration is awesome. And so..I ordered one.
In one of the reports i read on the net a couple of people have said they 'prefer
the estate as opposed to VRS' Cannot comment on that.
But I virtually guarantee you will have a bleedin good buy.
Ask about a 24 hr test drive?
its a 2002 polo in sheeps clothing! its the same quality only cheaper to buy! great!
I have owned a 2002 Fabia 1.4 16v Comfort & Volkswagon TDis, should be a great combination. In short both cars were great, so go for it !
