How do i know if water leaking from my astra w reg is from drainage tap or split in radiator?
Answers:
Maybe try adding a cheap food colouring to help source the leak.
The tap may be able to be tightened but they are usually plastic and go brittle and can break. Also the rubber washer can go hard. You might have a small hole in the radiator and the coolant is dripping off the tap cause it's the lowest point. Stop leak will probably work!
Try RAD WELD
get the system pressure tested, if the pug is leaking buy a new one and seal if the rad is leaking rad weld will usually cure it
The location of the leak could be either. It's possible to have a leak in the radiator core or a seam directly over the drain tap. The cheapest and easiest thing to do is purchase a new drain tap called a "pet ****" and make sure you change any gaskets or seals. This should only cost a few dollars. Drain the radiator when the engine is COLD into a container (not on ground, it is poisonous to animals) so it can re-used. Remove the old pet **** and install the new one. Refill the radiator, start the engine and allow to warm to normal operating temp. You may need to add a little antifreeze to replace any that was lost. Check the system for leaks. That will eliminate one leak point. And of course if the leak is gone, then you have fixed the problem. If the leak is still there, then the radiator probably needs repaired. Good luck.
open drain then close could have dirt in it. Also the dye in the radiator is a good idea that someone gave you
