Can I get round this Parking ticket(UK)?
I didn't see a ticket on my car but Got a letter through thte post saying to pay £140.
Do they need to have proof?
What can I do?
The sign in the area says your vehicle can get clamped, removed or a fixed penalty ticket and release fee of £140 if clamped
still what proof do they have?

I don't think they have the power to force you to pay, if you were able to get away. They may have CCTV footage, but frankly I'd wait for them to write to you again. If in doubt, don't pay, and see your nearest Citizens Advice Bureau for advice. There are a lot of cowboys and unscrupulous people out there. They may not be able to legally enforce it.
Its the cops word against yours, what further proof do 99% of the courts in the world need?
Pay it, it will save you a lot of time, trouble, and money in the future
Pay up & stop parking where you shouldn't!!

I read this news story 2day, bit of a coincidence but look in2 if the same thing has happened 2 U.

There are ways to get round a parking ticket if you can show that you didn't know you couldn't park there, e.g. if it's badly signed. Also, as there was no ticket under your wiper, it's possible that's it's an administrational error. Query it and just pay up if it's not an error.
You can prevent if from happening in the future by NOT parking in an area only for customers, if you ain't a customer.
As you wasn't clamped they cannot charge you £140 .The only thing they can charge you with is the penalty ticket price and as you have no copy you are not obliged to pay anything until they prove that they issued you with one.Also a little trick they do is to log what position your tyre valves are as a clock face 1 to 12 so they can prove in court that your Tyre positions are example 4 and 6 showing the front tyre valve was at 4 and the rear tyre was at position 6 .What you should do is ask this in court and say you know this fact so you also note the valve positions.Then pick 2 numbers randomly say 5 and 5 because it is almost impossible for the valves to be in the same position and even if they are you have 11 out of 12 attempts to be different than his 1 in 12 chance.
